What an amazing animal hospital! Every appointment and every encounter with any of the staff is always pleasant. From the front desk, the vet techs to the doctors, I must say they’re all gems. When people tell me they’ve worked there for years with a smile, I know I’m in the right place. If they treat their employees right they treat patients and caregivers right as well. Special shoutout to Dr Hallquest! You’re a rock star!

Great if you don’t mind spending $4,000-5000 for a dental cleaning (splitting extractions into two appointments) and $500 for a check up. Also they want you to give your pet gabapentin for blood draws if they show any fear or anxiety. Hard to tell if they are being extra caring or maximizing profits. I like the vet I don’t like their pricing.

Rory is our 3rd adored dog (8mos) and I was adamant that SAH would be his health care provider. Why? Jamie was our first. Dr. Randall was her doctor. She had a severe case of Lyme. I thought we would lose her. Dr. Schimmerhorn(?) was on that day and treated her, called us multiple times that night to check on her. She was fine. Two months later it came back. Frantically ran her in to SAH. Dr. Walker had just started there, he was very young. I gulped(I was an ER nurse in uniform). All went well. He became our Doctor of choice and was with her and us t the end. Fast forward to Brady. Pretty healthy. And then one holiday weekend, up in the Andirondacks, Brady became very ill. We rushed him to the nearest Emergency room. He was in ICU there for four days. The communication between them and SAH was great. We had to follow up every other day once he was discharged. Again great communication. Several years later in October 2024, we had to say goodbye to Brady. Dr Walker was not there but the doctor who was( I was too emotional to remember her name) was so empathetic, communicative, and caring that she helped us make that hard decision and comforted us. Now we have a rambunctious mixed breed rescue puppy. There is no snobbery at SAH. The front end staff is great, make a fuss of every animal coming in.

So when I look at the reviews for Somers Animal hospital, I am clear that this is MY experience and not many others. First-I find the women at the front who make the appointments and answer the phones unfriendly, cold, and unhelpful. I often think they just don’t like me (one in particular), but I’m not sure why. I do not think Dr. Walker cares much about my dog or what the right thing is to do for her… for example, a year and a half ago. I suggested she get an x-ray because she was not improving. He said it was not necessary and a week later she was in surgery with another doctor for her badly torn, ACL and meniscus. I took her back a year and a half later to get her some PT and was very unhappy with how I was treated -in particular, the fact that they made appointments for acupuncture on the day that Dr. Walker was in surgery and couldn’t do it. That means I drove 45 minutes there for nothing. When I was not happy about that they were not very apologetic. I am done with Somers Animal Hospital.
