I had a very upsetting experience with the receptionist during a medical emergency involving my pet. While I was scared and trying to get updates and results, she was dismissive, lacked compassion, and repeatedly made me feel as though my concerns were not valid. Also while bringing my pet in she loudly gasped due to my pets symptoms making the experience extremely worse for me. Instead of offering reassurance or clear communication, her responses only increased my fear and distress. At one point, I was made to feel as though I was inconveniencing the staff and was told that I was taking time away from pets experiencing “actual” emergencies. As a pet owner in an emergency situation, this was incredibly hurtful and inappropriate. I was simply advocating for my own pet during a frightening time. I want to be clear that the rest of the staff was truly amazing—kind, professional, and compassionate. Unfortunately, the receptionist’s behavior significantly detracted from the overall experience and is not representative of the care provided by the rest of the team. Compassion and empathy are essential in this role, and this experience fell far short of that expectation.
